These are pictures taken during the process of creating my “Hulkface” painting. It pictures my friend Eddie Angeletti. He is a personal trainer and student in NYC, has an amazing intellect and an impressive physique. These play into my picking him as Hulk (Banner/ Behemoth dichotomy) but my primary reason for choosing him for this was his sad eyes. The street artist Mysterious Al did a print called “The Incredible Sulk” a few years back and this piece is either an answer to that piece or could be thought of as inspired by that piece. I hope it gets to the core of the double edged psychology of being a contemporary modern Man.

Even though this painting is nearly monochromatic, its a good representation of my process of painting. Paint is applied in both a loose and tight fashion. During the process areas are obliterated or activated with a spray bottle. Paint is used both opaquely and transparently to add a sculptural dimension to this face.

Hulkface is on view at Rush Arts Gallery in Chelsea NYC this week Wednesday-Saturday from 12-6pm. There is a closing party this weekend March 31^st 2012 starting at 2pm. Come see the image for yourself and mix it up with the Artist and his friends as we celebrate my first one man show!
